Winter 2024 - BlM AT School + lunar New Year Potluck Celebration + TC PTA General Meeting

Monday, February 5, 6-7:30pm, Thornton Creek Commons

Thornton Creek PTA is hosting a Black Lives Matter at School + Lunar New Year celebration on Monday, February 5th from 6-7:30pm in the TC Commons.

This year’s Black Lives Matter at School National Week of Action is February 5-9. The BLM at School theme for this year is Collective Value.

The Black Lives Matter at School Guiding Principles share that through Collective Value

“We are guided by the fact that all Black lives, regardless of sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, economic status, ability, disability, education, location, age, immigration status, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, matter. None of us are free until we are all free.”

“Everybody is important, and has the right to be safe and happy, no matter what they believe, where they are from, or who they love.  Another way to say that is collective value.”

This event will also center the celebration of Lunar New Year - the Year of the Dragon! What better way to celebrate Lunar New Year, Collective Value and TC’s theme of Intergenerational than by having a potluck and being in community with each other! We would enjoy having you come share a meal with us and other TC families. In addition to food, there will be arts and crafts activities, and a short PTA business meeting that evening.

Please join us, and if you choose, bring some food to share.

Potluck Note: Please consider those with food allergies and restrictions by labeling any home-made dishes (i.e. Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Contains Nuts, Nut Free, etc…). We will have stick notes and pens available on site to list ingredients.

Accommodation: Please let us know if there are any accommodations that would help your family access the event by emailing us: hello@tc-pta.org

If you have interest in learning more about the Nominating Committee, or holding a TC PTA board position, please get in touch (hello@tc-pta.org)!

The NAACP Youth Council is a Seattle-based organization that advocates for racial equity and sensitivity policies in the Seattle Public School System. Winter 2021 - 1/25/2021

While in the past our general meetings have included potlucks and guest speakers, due the Covid-19 pandemic and public health guidelines, are gathering via Zoom. At the meeting on January 25th, we will introduce new board members, adopt WA State and National PTA anti-racist resolutions, provide updates on our community justice fund, engage in meaningful discussion around Black Lives Matter at School, and give general updates on various school, district, and PTA initiatives. We hope to see you there!

Fall 2020 - 10/20/2020

While in the past our general meetings have included potlucks and guest speakers, this time we'll be hosting a community dialogue on Zoom. We want to hear how your family is doing! We also want to have a meaningful discussion around the inequities we are collectively facing during the pandemic as a school, a district, and more broadly. Let's explore how we can step up to shift funds, plan outreach, and advocate for and with historically underserved students. Please join us and help shape the PTA priorities for the year. We hope to see you!
