THORNTON CREEK PTA

Spring 2024 TC PTA Highlights

Thornton Creek PTA (#6.15.80) was founded in 2018 by a group of dedicated anti-racist advocates. Our job as an equity-based PTA is to create space and opportunities for all families to feel welcome, empowered and see themselves reflected in our public school. Our primary goal is to foster and model equity while we advocate for educational justice for all students. We invite you to join us on this path of solidarity. Thornton Creek PTA:

Land Acknowledgement

Thornton Creek PTA would like to recognize the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people, including the land of the Duwamish People, past present and future, on which we are organizing, learning, and reflecting. We gather together with the common goal of creating an open, safe space to discuss issues important to all families in our community - including equity in education, social justice, environmental justice and student advocacy. Thornton Creek PTA honors the land of the Duwamish tribe and acknowledges the Duwamish people as the past, present, and future caretakers of this land. In addition, Thornton Creek PTA stands in solidarity with the First Peoples of this land by paying Real Rent in support of maintaining the vitality of the Duwamish Tribe.

Paying Real Rent to the Duwamish Tribe

We are the Thornton Creek Elementary School equity-based PTA from the unceded territory of the Duwamish and Coast Salish region in NE Seattle, and we are proud to be Real Renters.

In the Fall of 2020 TC PTA made our first payment to Real Rent Duwamish in recognition of the indigenous peoples who inhabited and cared for these lands before us. Each school year, we budget to participate in this opportunity to redistribute resources to the Duwamish Tribe who continue to call for the restoration of their treaty rights.

Support Our Work

Additional funds that we collect through memberships, donations or event sales are used to supplement our community pantry, redistribute to indigenous and youth-led BIPOC organizations, assist local PTAs with immediate community needs, contribute towards professional development opportunities around race and equity, and support our annual operating expenses, which includes childcare and family activities when we are able to host onsite events. Each year, our annual membership is invited to participate in identifying where our additional funds are redistributed.  If you would like to further our financial reach, please use the links below to support our work through a direct donation. Thank you!
