Families of Color

Families of color face unique challenges on a daily basisWe focus on connecting, advocating powerfully for our children, sharing our parenting experiences, attending cultural events together, and reflecting on social issues that impact our families. These gatherings are open to all to attend, and are designed to center families who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, bi-racial, multi-racial, and/or a people of color. If you have an idea for a gathering, we would love to hear from you. Please email us at hello@tc-pta.org.

Please Note: In a typical year, we host a series of events centering Families of Color including community potlucks, play dates, listening sessions and group outings. As we navigate Covid-19, we continue to use public health guidelines to guide our programming. If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, please stay home to protect the health of our community.

Come meet and eat at TC PTA’s Families + Staff of Color Potluck! Here’s a chance to share a meal and connect with other families at TC as we discuss ways to build up a welcoming, supportive environment for students of color. This is a social gathering so spread the word - bring a favorite dish (or just yourselves) and fill up your plate with food and friendship.

Thornton Creek PTA invites Families of Color to an outing to the Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration on May 6, 11AM-5PM at the Seattle Center Armory. FALL 2022 - TC Community playdate

This year, TC PTA and TCPG are partnering up to host Community Playdates on the TC Playground. Gather with familiar friends and meet some new ones! We will provide name tags, a few snacks, music, and some activities for families to engage in - including a chalk mural and a small craft.

TC PTA’s Latinx Families Group will host a table for caregivers to sign up for new or existing affinity groups (Latinx Families, Families of Color, and Families of Students Receiving Special Education Services). Desde el grupo de Familias Latinas nos queremos enfocar en crear una  comunidad donde los niños y las familias puedan compartir experiencias, tradiciones, un lenguaje en común y pasarlo bien! Un lugar seguro para apoyar a familias que quieran que sus hijos crezcan aprendiendo y usando el idioma español. Nuestra primera reunión será el Sábado 8 de Octubre a las 10am - 12pm en Thornton Creek Playground. Esperamos veros allí a todos. Si se puede!

Please Note: We understand that every family makes health and safety choices based on their own specific family needs. During these outdoor play date gatherings, we follow the Play Area Public Health Guidelines provided by Seattle Parks and Recreation. Leading up to each event, we will continue to monitor local Covid-19 transmission rates, and review how the City of Seattle asks public park visitors to interact. As necessary, we are prepared postpone or cancel events as recommended.

If you or a family member identifies as a person of color, multi-racial, Latinx, or native heritage, you are welcome to join us for any or all of these dates.
