At our April 2025 Spring meeting, our Board leaders shared that because of the level of capacity of our current Board and member engagement at that time, we have determined that we do not have the leadership or capacity to continue TC-PTA as an organization for the 2025-2026 school year.
We will plan to meet once more with our membership in Fall of 2025 (date to be announced) to officially vote on the dissolution of our organization and distribution of any remaining assets. As we close this chapter, we would like to focus on the core values of our equity-based PTA that we hope will continue to move forward at Thornton Creek.
Some highlights from our members about what has been important to them about PTA at Thornton Creek:
Focus on Community! Lots of playdates, potlucks, and community art projects
Families of Color potlucks and spaces at the school uplifting BIPOC have been meaningful and important
Support for Families with Disabilities and cultivating community / spaces to share and be together has been really important and special
Black Lives Matter and other community events that have brought people together to learn about racial equity and justice
The value of being a Welcoming community for all, helping uplift voices of folks who don't always experience welcome and belonging
Advocacy - learning about and sharing how to get involved at the state level to advocate for all students (for example, trips to Olympia, meeting with legislators, keeping updated during legislative session)
The TC Community Pantry has felt important and meaningful for members, and folks are regularly accessing and using this resource
If you are interested in how to continue important work at TC such as the Community Pantry or Families with Disabilities community-building spaces, or if you have other questions for our Board leaders, please reach out to us at hello@tc-pta.org.
Thornton Creek PTA (#6.15.80) was founded in 2018 by a group of dedicated anti-racist advocates who wanted to create space and opportunities for all families to feel welcome, empowered and see themselves reflected in our public school. We are so proud of the work of TC-PTA members, partners, and allies over the last 7 years, and know that these values still have a place at Thornton Creek.
Thank you so much for the participation, engagement, bright ideas and partnership that have sustained Thornton Creek PTA for 7 years! We have been privileged to grow together and collaborate with you.
Thornton Creek PTA would like to recognize the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people, including the land of the Duwamish People, past present and future, on which we are organizing, learning, and reflecting. We gather together with the common goal of creating an open, safe space to discuss issues important to all families in our community - including equity in education, social justice, environmental justice and student advocacy. Thornton Creek PTA honors the land of the Duwamish tribe and acknowledges the Duwamish people as the past, present, and future caretakers of this land. In addition, Thornton Creek PTA stands in solidarity with the First Peoples of this land by paying Real Rent in support of maintaining the vitality of the Duwamish Tribe.

We are the Thornton Creek Elementary School equity-based PTA from the unceded territory of the Duwamish and Coast Salish region in NE Seattle, and we are proud to be Real Renters.
In the Fall of 2020 TC PTA made our first payment to Real Rent Duwamish in recognition of the indigenous peoples who inhabited and cared for these lands before us. Each school year, we have budgeted to participate in this opportunity to redistribute resources to the Duwamish Tribe who continue to call for the restoration of their treaty rights.
